圣灵使读经，尤其是讲道，成为有效的外在方式:

  1. 启迪罪人（尼8:8；8；徒26:18；18；诗19:8）8），使其知罪谦卑（林前14:24-25；25；代下34:18-19，26-28）28）；
  2. 驱使他们脱离自我，吸引他们归向基督（徒2:37，41；8:27-39）39）；
  3. 使他们合乎祂的形状（林后3:18），征服他们，使其顺服祂的旨意（林后10:4-6；6；罗6:17）17）；
  4. 坚固他们，抵挡各样的试探和败坏（太4:4，7，10；10；弗6:16-17；17；诗19:11；11；林前10:11）11）；
  5. 在恩典中把他们建造起来（徒20:32；32；提后3:15-17）17），使他们的心藉信得救,成为圣洁，得着安慰（罗16:25；25；帖前3:2，10-11，13；13；罗15:4；10:13-17；1:6）6）。
